With so many fitness trackers available, which one should you choose? If you want more than just the basic features, take a look at our Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro review. This smart fitness tracker is packed with features to help you attain your goals.
Let’s dive right in!
What does it track?
- Sleep Time
- Calories Burned
- Heart Rate
- Distance Traveled
- Swimming Distance
- Cups of Coffee (directly from the device)
- Water Intake
- Exercise Tracking
All the stats are displayed along with the temp, time, and date. The home screen stats are customizable as well.
The built-in GPS shows the map right in the display in full color. It also features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
This model can stream Spotify wirelessly without an internet connection. Listen to your music with Bluetooth headphones or speakers.
You’ll find two buttons on the right side; both are responsive and easy to push. One takes you back to the previous screen and the other to the app drawer.
Functions That May Disappoint
The one feature that’s lacking is the sleep tracking. It was designed to track the quality and length of your sleep each night. It classifies your sleep quality as “restless,” “light,” or “motionless.”
However, your success with the sleep tracking will depend on which phone you have. It doesn’t work on all phone models. Stick with a Fitbit if you’re serious about automatic sleep tracking and graphing.
Another function that may disappoint is automatic exercise tracking. There are two ways to track specific exercises. Manual or auto-detect mode.
With manual mode, you choose the activity to begin exercise tracking. Auto-detect will start tracking when it senses movement and a heart rate increase.
But, it doesn’t always auto-detect the right exercise activities. In cases like that, go in and manually choose the correct one. Hopefully, this will improve with future software updates.
Features and Specs
The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro will run you between $149 and $199. The price is comparable to other feature-rich fitness trackers in its class. Here’s what’s under the hood for that price.
- 4GB of Onboard Storage: Will Hold 500 Songs
- Responsive Touch and Swipe Interface
- Beautiful Screen with a 1.5-inch Vertical OLED Display
- Operating System: Tizen
- Processor: Dual Core (1GHz Exynos 3250)
- RAM: 512MB
- Built-in Sensors: Heart rate, Accelerometer, Gyro, Barometer
- Phone Operating System Compatibility: Android + iOS
This Samsung wearable is waterproof up to 50 meters. Leave it on in the pool and shower without worrying about any damage.
The Water Lock feature turns off the touch and locks the screen when sensing water pressure against it. Turning it back on again is simple. Hold in the main button for three seconds, and it’ll be back to normal.
Preinstalled on every Gear Fit 2 are fitness apps ProMapMyRun, Speedo Go, UA Record, MyFitnessPal, and Endomondo. Preinstalling is Samsungs attempt to make the setup process a bit easier for users.
You’ll still need to download and install an additional Gear Fit applet, Samsung Health, and Samsung Gear apps on your phone. They’re available for both Android and iOS. These Samsung apps sync the data that your wearable collects with your phone.
If you’re interested in offline music streaming with Spotify, you’ll need to install that on the device too. Keep in mind that Spotify offline streaming requires a premium subscription.
You’ll also find a built-in weather app from The Weather Channel, a stopwatch, timer, and “Find My Phone” feature already installed on the Gear Fit.
Besides these, there are 3,000 additional apps and watch faces in the Galaxy App Store.
The notification feature of this fitness tracker makes it stand out from the rest. Once connected to your phone via Bluetooth, you can receive and send texts, handle calls and social media updates right on the device. You can also control your music via the device’s music player.
If paired with a newer model Samsung phone, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter updates will appear on the tracker’s screen. With Twitter and Instagram, the push of a button can open the full app on your smartphone.
Setting up quick custom responses to messages is straightforward and a nice feature when you’re on the go and too busy to text back.
Battery life is two to three days with limited usage and one day with high usage. This is short compared to the battery life of a Fitbit, which averages seven days.
The Gear Fit 2 Pro comes with a charger, but no power adapter. Its magnetic charging mechanism is usable from any direction.
With a USB 3.0 port, expect a 90-minute recharge. Using a regular phone charger will do it in 60 minutes.
The Fit Pro 2 is comfortable enough to wear all day. You may even forget that you’re wearing it. The elastomer band is soft and slightly flexible.
With the pro version, you’re getting a standard watch strap style in size small or large. The wearable device comes in black on black or black and red.
Samsung offers Gear Fit Pro 2 owners a one-year standard warranty covering standard parts and labor.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro Review Wrap Up
If you already have last years model, should you upgrade? Probably not, unless you can’t live without Spotify offline streaming or you need a waterproof version. The newest Gear Fit 2 Pro is about 90% identical to the last model.
It’s just not worth it if you already own the Gear Fit 2. Samsung’s Gear Fit product line showed steady improvement until now. With this model, there aren’t that many upgrades.
On the other hand, if you own a basic fitness tracker and you want more features, the Gear Fit 2 Pro won’t disappoint. It’s especially optimal for swimmers and music lovers that would rather keep their phone tucked away.
